how can i train a ferret to put away his toys and come when called?

i have the CUTEST little 3 month old male ferret named Eliot and i want to train him to come to his name and put away his toys when done. I use bandits as rewards and always praise him well! and he wont let me hod him and when he sleeps he wakes up to the smallest of noises i thought ferrets go into DEAD SLEEP?

  1. Sorry, they can’t even be trained 100% to use the litter box.

  2. Ferrets are hard to train to do specific things like put toys away, because they are not “fetchers”.

Also, some ferrets do sleep hard, some don’t. You have a light sleeper.

You can train him to come to his name, just call it and add some sort of noise he comes to naturally (perhaps a squeak toy, or rattling). Call his name when he is getting his treat, eating it, and then eventually stop using the sound and just call him, and he should come. This can take a long time to learn.

Also know that ferrets have an easier time hearing higher pitches over long distances so calling in a higher pitch can help.
