Ferrets occasionally get a poor rap of becoming destructive pets. Our ferrets in no way triggered any harm except…
These small guys are inherently inquisitive. They adore to explore their surroundings–a truth that may occasionally get them into trouble if they aren’t in a safe environment.
The one in the picture is busy exploring the potting soil around a plant. (Be careful, some plants are toxic.)
They hate something that stands within the way of their explorations, which we learned the tough way. Our ferrets don’t like closed doors if they believe there’s something of awareness about the other side.
At our summer house, we maintain the home towards the guest area closed, unless we have guests. 1 time 1 of us had to put some thing away in that area. Regrettably, 1 of our ferrets happened to determine us go into the area and close the home once again upon our return.
The following time he was released from his cage for play time, he instantly went to that home and started scratching, obviously willing it to open. Whenever we would attempt to awareness him in some thing else, he would desert us to return towards the home for a lot more insistent scratching.
In frustration, we opened the home to permit him to explore the area, hoping that 1 great inspection would cure is curiosity forever. Alas, we had been not so lucky. Whilst we didn’t see something in there to awareness a ferret, he nevertheless believed that he deserved free of charge access. When the home was open, he would explore rapidly after which ignore the guest area. Nevertheless, as soon as the home was closed once again, he returned to his relentless scratching.
Why didn’t we just leave the room doorway open? The area had not been correctly ferret-proofed and we could in no way be certain that a careless guest would not leave some thing laying around that might be dangerous to ferrets.
Our eventual remedy was merely to accept the inevitability that we had been going to need to adjust to having a home that had lot of small scratches at ferret height.
We’ll have more on ferret-proofing the ferret play environment later.
